Now Confirmed in White: the iPhone 5!

Apple relish the opportunity to generate a whole load of hype surrounding their latest launch- and with good reason, because hype equates to consumer excitement which equates to increased press coverage which equates to more sales for Apple!

Perhaps the most exciting of all Apple products is due for launch really really soon – and the rumour mill has been churning up corns of information about it since around December of 2010, so there’s been plenty of gossip to get us going and keep us interested!

But Apple’s marketing department are a tightly-run ship, with official information virtually non-existent until the appointed time and date – God help any employee that dares to break news before launch day! (The only slight uset to their polished reputation being the loss of an iPhone 4 in a San Francisco bar before its official launch in 2010… and Gizmodo, who broke the specifications early, have since been ignored when new event invites get posted!)

All of this means that, although we’ve got rumours aplenty to keep us going, almost none of them are confirmed… until now!
The rumour hasnt been officially confirmed by those at Camp Cupertino (Apple’s HQ). However, this news source is almost as reliable, being one of the mobile phone networks that provides the iPhone to many customers across the world. Vodafone are the culprits, leaking some information about the iPhone 5 out onto the web, which was quickly noticed by the news team at AppleInsider. This information is as official as you can get without it coming from Apple themselves!

Vodafone’s leak shows that the new iPhone 5 will be available in Apple’s traditional iPhone colours of Black and White; but it also shows that the memory capacity on the iPhone 5 is set to remain as with previous models: there will be a 16GB version and one sporting 32GB of memory. That means that future iPhone 5 owners can choose 1 out of 4 new iPhone 5s depending on colour and capacity.

It isnt ground-breaking news considering that this follows the pattern of previous iPhone and iPad releases, but any iPhone 5 news is good iPhone news!

The news about the white iPhone 5 was found on Vodafone’s Sure Signal page. Sure Signal is one of Vodafone’s acessories that gives you a boost to your mobile signal in your home by sending the connection through your Wi-Fi router. This page clearly listed the Sure Signal router as being compatible with the iPhone 5 16GB, iPhone 5 32GB, iPhone 5 White 16GB and the iPhone 5 32GB. We are not sure why Vodafone needs to make it explicit that both colours are compatible – surely the only difference between them will be the colour?!

Having said that, we appreciate any news that Vodafone want to give about the iPhone 5, so thanks Vodafone! The offending page has of course been quickly scrubbed from their website, so they clearly realised their mistake quickly. The page’s rapid removal, plus the fact that networks usually have prior information on phone launches, all point to this information being pretty concrete.
